CHAT ROOM TROUBLESHOOTING:

[You might want to print this for future reference. Either select "File" and then "Print" from the menu in Internet Explorer or Netscape, or else select all the text below with your mouse and copy-and-paste it into a word processor.]

IF THE CHATROOM DOESN'T WORK, HERE ARE SOME POSSIBLE FIXES:

1) Go to one of the two other chatrooms and see if THAT ONE works better. If a room gets overcrowded, the server sometimes "crashes" or "hangs."

2) Click on the "reload" or "refresh" button in your browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer). If you don't see such a button, look at the selections listed under "view" in the menu on the top of the screen.

3) Make sure you have a recent version of your web browser (either Netscape 3 or Internet Explorer 4.0). If your browser is more than three years old, you should update it. Visit www.netscape.com or www.microsoft.com/ie to download the latest browser versions.

4) If you have a recent web browser, you need to allow "Java" to operate on your system by having any Java-based options turned on. They are on by default; if you changed your internet software options, then you need to review them. Check your setup options in Netscape or Internet Explorer. [Chances are that these "options" are located on the menu choices at the top of your screen, listed under "edit" or "tools" -- look for the word "Options" or "Internet Options" or "Properties." In MS Windows, Internet Options are also accessible through the "Control Panel."] Look for the word Java -- anytime you see it, click "on" or "enable" in the little switches boxes and buttons next to it.

5) Sometimes the chatrooms crash on the mainframe, and it has nothing to do with you or your computer. Don't panic if you can't get into the chatroom. If none of the above helps, you can always go back to the threaded discussion board at Seton Hill's website and join up with the other folks who prefer to chat there.
